One Day at a Time

First, ignoring all the drug content I don’t necessarily agree with (I understand the dev may have personal issues they’re writing from – but it makes it a hard sell for a lot of people in general, and I frankly am not sure all of the writing is actually healthy even coming with that mindset of what it’s like. Some of it is condescending, some of it assumes we have no imagination to know what it’s like and frankly, plenty of people have demons we have to beat. For example, mine may not be alcohol but my father’s very much was. I live in his shadow whether I ever wanted to or not. I’m not going to share what mine is. You can probably guess by the end. So yeah… hard concept in what should be called “fantasy.” It’s not an escape for most people, though if it helps the dev; fair enough)

That said: Lydia is an asshole. Vocally, an asshole to the point she’s actively harmful to the MC she’s at the same time blaringly grateful for and can’t actually function without. Aubery shouldn’t be gated to having to corrupt her to get her to actually fuck MC if she cares all that damned much. Barb as a concept is only at all fixable (for fucking with what some people CALL a fetish, and is actually incredibly personal and if mishandled, triggering for a LOT of people) IF you say she lied about the source of her twins. MC SHOULD be the father. Period. I care less that she was pregnant off screen (Though again, don’t freaking tease with the concept if you’re not going to add in) than I do that she professes to want MC back and still care – is actively making him jump through hoops to “win” her when he knows she has blood ties to someone else. Randomly. IT WAS NOT NECESSARY. At all. Also, bullshit he doesn’t blame her. To be aware that she left, because she needed to focus on her, would hurt. To suddenly realize not only that but she got pregnant SOON after… my first instict would be yeah… fuck you. Completely. It’s not something you can take back. Yes, fuck ups happen, but so does abortion, so do miscarriages. The idea she might have actually used protection even drunk because she DIDN’T WANT to get pregnant and was remotely aware it might happen raw. Gah! Seriously kills all but the last drop of my investment with that character. Who is already a HARD SELL because COP.

If you aren’t eventually going to add pregnancy into the tags and into the game… then screw the idea of bringing it up. At all. You’re either teasing a “fetish,” or abusing the draw of it. That won’t win you any more patrons, and I’d argue it’s going to cost you a fair few. Like myself. I’m going to finish the first part of the game but I’ll be damned if I download the second if MC doesn’t ACTUALLY get sober. Or get closer to choosing NOT to use. Jesus how many times do I need to pick the sober option to get the asshole not to be using in any scene? [Again, I get it’s not that easy, and it’s not supposed to be at all. But in this context it IS fantasy. HARD. SELL] That’s all I’m going to say. I’m 9 days in, and I’m right at the part were Barb has decided to commit to the MC in the hotel – I can’t promise you X but by the end we are so going to fuck… yes, I used the walkthrough but come on. Just don’t make her fishtail like that if you want me to believe at all she can be a cop or a Domme. (I did take the sub path for her, and I do appreciate at least you’ll respect THAT choice)

If you want me to believe this arse has a shot in hell of keeping a harem, he’s got to get to the point where he helps all the girls to get sober too. Where he can hold a job and make Barb’s you’ll do amazing things be more than just some platitude. Which he’s NOT going to do with that kind of record, and that many strikes – while he’s riding the rails to massively fuck up. I mean, if he was a mob boss, I’d be a little more lenient but Jesus… If you make people go through all that work, all that heaviness… you have to actually show a progressive reward. Nevermind a +1 point system that doesn’t DO anything. Which you can’t even actively see without the walkthrough, that as far as I know is a separate download. Barb’s arc notwithstanding, there’s been basically no real change in Lydia from the start. Very. Little. Mary is basically who she was too, and because I kept going with Aubery +1 to make her like me, she’s brick walled. The characters are all passably hot women, though I would call them moderately attractive in general. The personalities for the most part… I’ve already covered. It takes more than make up to fix that.

Diplomatically, this story isn’t for me. I don’t really feel like it was for anybody but the Dev themselves. Hopefully the game can have a good ending… but given the content, I’m doubtful. If it does, it’ll be like Judy Garland. Somewhere way the hell over a rainbow. Might want to try and find that magical pot of gold while we’re at it.
